AUSTRALIA’S biggest city is gearing up for a new day, with big-time rush hour due to start on Saturday.
Key points:New metro lines and bus services are planned to boost the number of people commuting to work and school in PerthThe WA Government says it will reduce peak-hour bus usage to help reduce pollution and improve air qualityKey points WA’s new metro line is a major upgrade to its existing system, which has long been plagued by delaysThe state Government will start the new service, which is set to run until at least May 2019, on March 31The new metro service is expected to boost commuters’ daily commute time from 40 minutes to almost 70 minutes.
The new system will see the city’s peak-time bus system extended to weekends, allowing more people to use the bus network.
The system will also have more than 1,000 new bus lanes, as well as more than 300 new streetcars.
The Government says the new metro system will help reduce peak hour bus usage by up to 50 per cent, which will help to improve air pollution.
The State Government has already reduced bus traffic by more than half to around 60 per cent of the capacity.
The Perth Metro Board (PWMB) says the upgrade will also help to reduce pollution, which currently can be as high as 500 micrograms per cubic metre in some parts of the city.
The PWMB says the bus lanes will be installed in the first week of March and the new system should be operational by May 2019.
“It’s a big project, we’re really excited about it, and we’re hoping to get it going really quickly,” PWMBC chairperson and CEO Michael Cairns said.
“We want to see the network operate normally in the coming weeks, and that’s really the plan.”
There’s been a lot of criticism about how the bus system works in Perth and the Perth Metro, but the buses are running on time.
“The city’s new bus network will include four new bus lines, three of which will be operated on weekends.
On top of that, WA Government will begin the rollout of a new metro network, which includes an additional 24 metro lines to allow for more people on the network.
Mr CairNSW Premier Mark McGowan said it was great news for the people of Perth.”
With this upgrade we’re bringing our buses back to a more normal and sustainable level,” Mr McGowan told the ABC.”
In the past we’ve had to have massive amounts of congestion because of the huge amounts of people coming to work, school, and other areas of the state.
“He said the new bus system would allow more people in the city to be able to get to work in an “efficient and timely way”.”
We’re seeing a significant improvement in air quality and our air quality is actually better than it was a couple of years ago, so it’s a win-win,” he said.WA Premier Mark McMorris said the Government was working hard to make Perth the most air-friendly city in Australia.”
This upgrade will make Perth a top performer in the world, and this is an important milestone in Perth’s transformation to a world-class city,” he told the Nine Network.”
Today is a great day for Perth and a great win-lose for WA.
“The state government will start work on the new Metro system on March 21, 2018, with service expected to be operational on May 31, 2019.
