Tim Boyd: ‘I think it’s important to make it clear I’m not a bigot’

Tim Boye is not a fan of what he calls “racism” in football.

The midfielder made his comments on social media when he was asked if he was a racist.

“I think that’s a really good question and it’s a very big one,” Boye said.

“We’re a football nation.

There’s no such thing as a black player, white player or a woman.

It’s all football, all about the players, about the game.”

But Boye says the reaction to his comments was “terrible”.

“The reaction was terrible, the hate that I got from people that are white.

It was horrible.

It wasn’t from a football perspective, it was from an anti-white perspective.”

Boye says he is “extremely disappointed” in the reaction.

“What people say, it doesn’t matter to me.

It doesn’t affect me.

What does matter is how you respond to that, I’m very disappointed with that,” he said.

The 29-year-old joined Newcastle in a £13million deal from West Bromwich Albion last summer.
